Green Gutter Screens - Installation Instructions

It is strongly recommended all gutters and downspouts be thoroughly cleaned and rinsed before any Green Gutter Screens are installed. All debris including dust, shingle grit, and any other small organic matter should be completely removed from the gutters before installing Green Gutter Screens. Be sure to check each downspout to ensure water is flowing properly and that they are free from all debris.

It is recommended all gutters are hung and pitched properly before installing Green Gutter Screens. Install new inside brackets when necessary to reinforce gutter strength and/or replace spike and ferrule installations.

General installation instructions

Green Gutter Screens are made with 2 profiles ("Z" bend or standard). The patented "Z" bends on the front, back, or front and back of each piece ensure the product can be installed easily onto any gutter system. The standard profile products can be installed effectively if the roof and gutter system allow such an installation.

All Green Gutter Screens with a mesh should be installed at an angle not exceeding 10 degrees and should not slant backwards towards the roof. Green Gutter Screens without a mesh can be installed on any roof irrespective of the roof pitch. Under ice and snow conditions all products should be mechanically fastened at the front top edge of the gutter with a minimum of three screws per piece.

"Z" Bend installation

1. The back "Z" of each piece should be installed into the gutter before the front of each piece. The back "Z" of each 4 foot section should be supported in at least 2 locations. This may be done using existing straps and spikes or screws may be added. These supports should be close to the ends.

2. Each piece of Green Gutter Screen should be compressed slightly to install the front Z of the product. The natural tension in the screens will ensure the front "Z" attaches firmly to the front lip of the gutter. Only use ½” screws to attach the front Z if required. We recommend ½” stainless steel or aluminum screws. In most installations the use of screws is not required at the front of the gutter.

3. It may be necessary to notch the back of each "Z" wherever a strap or spike is located to ensure it fits snuggly on each strap or spike attaching the gutters.

4. Install the pieces from right to left. Ensure the pieces butt close together and the overlap between pieces is utilized. This will minimize any debris entering the gutter system at all seams.

5. At the ends of each gutter run cut off approximately 1” of the front and back "Z" of each piece of Green Gutter Screen and bend the center of each piece down into the gutter. This will close off the gutter system and ensure nothing gets into the system at the end of each gutter run.

6. At valley or hip areas the pieces can be overlapped or cut at a 45 degree angle. A table saw, chop saw or tin snips can be used to cut the pieces. (If they are overlapped the front and back "Z" must be cut off before installation). If one of the fine mesh Green Gutter Screens is being used the fine mesh must be removed from one piece before installation.

Standard/Flat product installation. (For Tiny Hole).

For standard/flat Green Gutter Screens to be used the roof and gutter system must be constructed in a manner which allows the front of each piece of screen to be firmly locked into or onto the front lip of the gutter.

1. Lift up the roofing materials and slide each piece under the existing roofing material.

2. Pull each piece forward so the front screw edge securely locked into the front of the gutter or the flat part of each piece is overhanging the front lip of the gutter by approximately ¼”.

3. If necessary attach the front of each piece with three ½” aluminum or stainless steel screws. Screws should be close to the end and middle of each piece.

4. There should be no need to attach the back if the front of each piece is firmly locked into the front lip of the gutter.

5. If necessary attach the rear of each piece with ½” screws. (If the existing roof is removed the flat pieces can be locked into the front lip of the gutter and the back of each piece screwed into the roof deck before the new roofing material is installed.)

6. Follow steps 4 and 5 above at valleys, hips and at the end of a gutter run.

Standard/Flat product installation. (For Mesh Product).

1. Pull each piece forward so the front Z is securely locked into the front of the gutter or the flat part of each piece is overhanging the front lip of the gutter by approximately ¼”.

2. With the Z is locked securely into the front lip of the gutter, the back will sit flat on your inside brackets. Each section should be supported in 3 locations. This may be done using existing straps and spikes or screws may be added. These supports should be close to the ends and middle of each piece.

3. If necessary attach the front of each piece with three ½” aluminum or stainless steel screws. Screws should be close to the end and middle of each piece.

4. There should be no need to attach the back if the front of each piece is firmly locked into the front lip of the gutter.

5. Follow steps 4 and 5 above at valleys, hips and at the end of a gutter run

Notes:

Each piece should be a minimum of 18” long. This requires each gutter run to be laid out before installation. The remaining length of each piece should be used on another gutter section.

Do not use sealant on seams or attach to Green Gutter Screens.

We recommend Green Gutter Screens be cleaned off occasionally to ensure water is not impeded before entering the gutter system.
